Just For Kicks: Cool For Summer

It’s important to stay cool in the summer. This last month, the Just For Kicks Team highlighted ways to keep you cool — on-trend and in-touch with pop culture. We shared food museums and food podcasts, commented on the new school meals, and hyped up a few food influencers from TikTok — before football (and fall) kicks off the next season.

Food museums are fun experiences that provide a break in the everyday to remind us how grateful we should be for good food. This summer, Chicago kept it cool with a Museum of Ice Cream. However, there are a few more spots on our museum bucket lists we still haven’t made it to, like the Spam Museum in Austin, Minnesota. It’s bit of a drive, but maybe the JFK Team could block the time off our calendars for a teambuilding exercise.

You know what makes for terrific food for the soul?

Food. And podcasts about food.

The J-Crew identified a few podcasts to keep you entertained on your daily commute or while you’re cooking at home. Get these podcasts in your feed, and your soul will thank you: Gastropod, Home Cooking, Table Manners, and The Sporkful.

We haven’t been to grade school in a while, so mealtime looks a little different these days. Schools are packed with new foods (think all-day breakfast, performance-boosting foods and quality veggie-forward features) and cultured cuisines (think global flavors like Mediterranean and noodles of all kinds). It’s safe to say students are fueled up on the premium stuff these days.

If you’re a visual learner, we’ve got you covered. TikTok has no shortage of mind-bending accounts dedicated to food, but here are a few where we find daily inspiration:

From Atlanta, Georgia, So Icey (@soiceyatl) does Philly Water Ice its own way. See it to believe it.

If it were up to us, we’d build an addition onto the food pyramid for chicken. In our backyard of Chicago, Hot Chi (@eathotchi) stakes its claim as the hottest chicken spot in town. No matter who holds that title, it’s making food more fun.

Chef Ming Tsai (@chefmingtsai) is giving grade-A instruction for all on his account. Here’s his refreshingly cool take on a watermelon margarita.

If sweets are your thing, check out Ash Baber (@ashbaber). This account is the product of a real beautiful mind. Who else would dream up Biscoff Rolls?
